Words of Advice
"Sometimes we buy gifts for others that we really want for ourselves"
These words of wisdom came from my father a couple of years ago. You have to understand that my father was notorious for doing this though. Like the year he bought my mother drill bits for Valentine's Day; my mother doesn't drill anything and she certainly didn't have her own drill to use them in. There was also the meat slicer and the bathtub whirlpool. I see it in D-'s daughter who wanted to give him "Blue Crush" for his birthday. D- neither enjoys surfing nor wants to see this movie, so luckily I was able to talk C- out of it. D- and I do have a standing agreement that on Valentine's Day/Anniversary (same day) we will buy each other something that we really want for ourselves. And it has to be obvious. I can't just go out a buy a DVD that I know we would both enjoy, it has to be something only I would enjoy. And since D- has a complete inability to purchase gifts for me at least I know I may get something good on that day.
For D-'s birthday though I got something that he will enjoy though and it is so not for me at all. We're going to Martinsville in the fall for a race. Not that I'm a big racing fan or even a fan at all, but he likes it so that's what matters. And I'll get a weekend out of town in a city I love (we're staying in Winston-Salem). It took me awhile to come up with it, but I wanted something he would enjoy, something that would prove that it is important to give gifts, and something that he would just pass on to the children. He definitely loved it when I told him about it.
Almost time for me to take the morning break.
